A Healing Thought

My yoga teacher read this lovely poem this morning as she was winding down the class. It was written by Dr. Kent M. Keith, the author of  the book Anyway: The Paradoxical Commandments; it was cherished by Mother Teresa, who displayed it on the wall of her children’s home in Calcutta. This inspires me, as I await the hip surgery that will hopefully restore me to my former active life,  to do my best and follow my heart, regardless of what others might say or think.

People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.             If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.        If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.                                       If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.                           The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.             Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.                             Give your best anyway. In the end, it is between you and (Your Higher Power). It was never about them anyway.

  1. Very inspiring poem. Makes you realize how important to do good things for yourself and others. I enjoyed this line – Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. “Give your best anyway. In the end, it is between you and (Your Higher Power). It was never about them anyway.” It is about doing what is best for you no matter if you fail or dont get accepted, its in the process and deed, not the outsome. Thanks

Most athletes have experienced a “second wind,” that jolt of energy and strength that allows us, enervated and dispirited, to carry on. But sometimes our bodies cannot recover on their own – we need outside help so we can catch our “third wind.”
