What a thrill to be at Yankee Stadium today to watch the Yankees trounce the Toronto Blue Jays, 9 to 3. (Don’t you just love the sports lingo?) But a great deal of my attention was on a certain third baseman.

Alex Rodriguez, the serial slugger and fellow hip impingement sufferer, hit his 15th home run of the season during the game. Actually, it was career homer No. 628 for A-Rod – who is sixth on the list of baseball’s all-time home run list, and now just two runs behind Ken Griffey Jr., the former Seattle Mariners outfielder. A-Rod also ties Carl Yastrzemski, the famed Boston Red Sox left fielder, for 15th place all time in runs scored, with 1,816.

Not bad for someone who, only two years ago, was still on the mend after arthroscopic hip surgery to repair a torn hip labrum (on his right side)  – the same procedure I had seven weeks ago.

You can read more about the Yankees-Blue Jays game on the Major League Baseball site.

Welcome

Most athletes have experienced a “second wind,” that jolt of energy and strength that allows us, enervated and dispirited, to carry on. But sometimes our bodies cannot recover on their own – we need outside help so we can catch our “third wind.”
